{"id":1333,"date":"2007-03-22T16:45:00","date_gmt":"2007-03-22T23:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtiscchen.com\/journal\/2007\/03\/22\/oh-so-now-you-want-linux\/"},"modified":"2007-03-22T16:45:00","modified_gmt":"2007-03-22T23:45:00","slug":"oh-so-now-you-want-linux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtiscchen.com\/journal\/2007\/03\/22\/oh-so-now-you-want-linux\/","title":{"rendered":"Oh, so NOW you want Linux?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Blogged today on CNET: <a href=\"http:\/\/crave.cnet.com\/8301-1_105-9700099-1.html\">&#8220;According to Novell ads, Linux is a cute girl who needs a haircut.&#8221;<\/a>  Novell, which sells machines pre-installed with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.novell.com\/linux\/whysle10.html\">SUSE Linux<\/a>, has created their own ads parodying Apple&#8217;s brilliant &#8220;Mac vs. PC&#8221; TV spots.<\/p>\n<p>The Novell ad is nothing special, but the other links from the blog post are fascinating&#8211;especially the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scootinger.net\/2007\/02\/20\/im-a-pc-and-im-a-mac-circa-1996\/\">1996 comparison of PC and Mac users<\/a> (denim shirt? really?) and the <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">international<\/span> versions of Apple&#8217;s ads.  For example, compare <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/uk\/getamac\/ads\/\">the UK\/Ireland &#8220;Network&#8221; spot<\/a> (page 1, far right) to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/getamac\/ads\/\">the American version<\/a> (page 4, third from the right); the premise is the same, but the execution and tone are substantially different.
