{"id":1330,"date":"2007-03-26T21:58:00","date_gmt":"2007-03-27T04:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtiscchen.com\/journal\/2007\/03\/26\/its-raining-300-men\/"},"modified":"2007-03-26T21:58:00","modified_gmt":"2007-03-27T04:58:00","slug":"its-raining-300-men","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtiscchen.com\/journal\/2007\/03\/26\/its-raining-300-men\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;It&#8217;s Raining 300 Men&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I love video mash-ups.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"350\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/pi2t58CRmbU\"><\/param><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/pi2t58CRmbU\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" wmode=\"transparent\" width=\"425\" height=\"350\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Speaking of <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">300<\/span>, over at <a href=\"http:\/\/kfmonkey.blogspot.com\/\">Kung Fu Monkey<\/a>, screenwriter John Rogers has an interesting perspective on the arguably &#8220;anti-American&#8221; sentiments that keep popping up in the movie&#8211;the relevant post is subtitled <a href=\"http:\/\/kfmonkey.blogspot.com\/2007\/03\/writing-300-and-viewpoints.html\">&#8220;Why does King Leonidas hate Private Ryan?&#8221;<\/a>  Provocative stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I&#8217;m happy to accept <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">300<\/span> as the lighthearted romp that it is.  Sure, it wants to be all macho and loaded with <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">gravitas<\/span> and artfully-story-within-a-story, but there just isn&#8217;t that much there.  It gets the job done, but apart from the visual effects&#8211;which are absolutely stunning&#8211;doesn&#8217;t break any new ground in the narrative department.  Nothing wrong with that, but don&#8217;t make it out to be more than it is.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m hoping the director, Zack Snyder, digs a little deeper with his next project: the also-often-declared-unfilmable <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aintitcool.com\/node\/22841\"><span style=\"font-style:italic;\">Watchmen<\/span><\/a>.
