{"id":1322,"date":"2007-05-01T22:30:00","date_gmt":"2007-05-02T05:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtiscchen.com\/journal\/2007\/05\/01\/love-lucy\/"},"modified":"2007-05-01T22:30:00","modified_gmt":"2007-05-02T05:30:00","slug":"love-lucy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtiscchen.com\/journal\/2007\/05\/01\/love-lucy\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Love Lucy&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My fourth <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">365 tomorrows<\/span> story has been published:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.365tomorrows.com\/05\/01\/love-lucy\/\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Love Lucy<\/span><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m always fascinated by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.365tomorrows.com\/forums\/viewtopic.php?t=1204\">forum discussions<\/a>, wherein I learn just how different my work looks to other people.<\/p>\n<p>This story was inspired by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/LUCYinLA\">LUCYinLA&#8217;s video blog on YouTube<\/a>, the creepy-but-train-wreck-fascinating <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realdoll.com\/\">RealDoll<\/a>, and the painstakingly specific <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Slash_fiction#Content_ratings_and_warnings\">content ratings used in slash fiction<\/a>.  I didn&#8217;t intend to present any particular moral or political view.  I just wanted to explore the aftermath of a decision.  As my wife likes to say: <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">Actions have consequences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I found writing the story very difficult, for two main reasons: first, because I had a lot to say, and trimming it down to 500 words meant that I had to abbreviate or remove a lot of detail.  Second, the subject matter is very intimate, and imagining the main character&#8217;s anxiety and anguish took a lot out of me, emotionally.  (Perhaps not as much as <a href=\"http:\/\/waypointkangaroo.blogspot.com\/2006\/11\/3865-words.html\">the hijacking scene in <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">Waypoint Kangaroo<\/span><\/a>, but in some ways, just as badly.)<\/p>\n<p>~CKL<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My fourth 365 tomorrows story has been published: Love Lucy I&#8217;m always fascinated by the forum discussions, wherein I learn just how different my work looks to other people.
