{"id":1225,"date":"2008-03-27T11:49:00","date_gmt":"2008-03-27T18:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtiscchen.com\/journal\/2008\/03\/27\/what-the-frak\/"},"modified":"2008-03-27T11:49:00","modified_gmt":"2008-03-27T18:49:00","slug":"what-the-frak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtiscchen.com\/journal\/2008\/03\/27\/what-the-frak\/","title":{"rendered":"What the Frak?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not a BSG fan (shocking, I know), but I appreciated the Sci Fi Channel&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scifi.com\/battlestar\/index.php?clip=recap\">snarky 9-minute recap<\/a> of the first three seasons.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, I probably enjoyed that recap more than the first season, which I watched on DVD and then promptly gave away to my friend <a href=\"http:\/\/kplusb.org\/\">Bryan<\/a>.  I&#8217;m not saying it&#8217;s a bad show.  It&#8217;s just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.snout.org\/hotsheet\/2006\/10\/flying-toasters-are-so-1989.html\">not for me<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At some point, I&#8217;ll write a longer post on how much it bugs me when putative sf\/fantasy shows are <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">insufficiently rigorous<\/span>.  That is, they come up with some amazing premise, but then fail to think through all the ramifications of the gimmick they used to sell the show.  For now, I&#8217;ll just name a couple of the current offenders:  <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">New Amsterdam<\/span> and <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles<\/span>.
