{"id":1182,"date":"2008-07-13T19:18:00","date_gmt":"2008-07-14T02:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtiscchen.com\/journal\/2008\/07\/13\/rhymes-with-fail-part-2\/"},"modified":"2008-07-13T19:18:00","modified_gmt":"2008-07-14T02:18:00","slug":"rhymes-with-fail-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtiscchen.com\/journal\/2008\/07\/13\/rhymes-with-fail-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Rhymes with FAIL, Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(In case you missed <a href=\"http:\/\/malum-iter.com\/RoadTripCatsMMVIII\/2008\/06\/rhymes-with-fail.html\">Part 1<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Guess what we got in the mail today?*<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.snout.org\/hotsheet\/uploaded_images\/snout_taxes-712626.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.snout.org\/hotsheet\/uploaded_images\/snout_taxes-712623.png\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s right, it&#8217;s a notice from the California State Franchise Tax Board saying that <a href=\"http:\/\/snout.org\/game\/\">Team Snout<\/a> owes <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">over a thousand dollars<\/span> in back taxes!  Also check out the dates: the FTB gave us only two weeks to pay up, and it took the USPS nearly two weeks to forward our mail correctly.<\/p>\n<p>The phrase &#8220;good enough for government work&#8221; does <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">not<\/span> come to mind.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, here&#8217;s the breakdown of the pound of flesh:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.snout.org\/hotsheet\/uploaded_images\/snout_taxes_breakdown-727087.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.snout.org\/hotsheet\/uploaded_images\/snout_taxes_breakdown-727084.png\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re pretty sure this is a clerical error, since Team Snout is an <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">unincorporated association<\/span>, and $800 is the annual franchise tax due from any California corporation, limited partnership, or LLC.  We already paid our 2006 taxes, which is where that $5.00 credit comes from, and the reason we established ourselves as an unincorporated association was to avoid these kinds of fees and paperwork.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever.  D, our team treasurer, is going to call tomorrow and sort this out.
