{"id":1131,"date":"2008-10-06T16:14:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-06T23:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtiscchen.com\/journal\/2008\/10\/06\/almost-famous\/"},"modified":"2008-10-06T16:14:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-06T23:14:00","slug":"almost-famous","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtiscchen.com\/journal\/2008\/10\/06\/almost-famous\/","title":{"rendered":"Almost Famous"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My friends Crissy and Elena feature prominently in today&#8217;s <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">San Jose Mercury News<\/span> story about the city&#8217;s annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/ci_10650289?nclick_check=1\">Rock &#8216;n&#8217; Roll Half Marathon<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Eschewing the mental &#8220;zone&#8221; that long-distance runners try to enter, Crissy Gugler and Elena Melendez decided they would stop, get down and boogie at every musical stage along the Rock &#8216;n&#8217; Roll Half Marathon.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We do this every year, more for the music than for the running,&#8221; said Gugler, 37, of Sunnyvale, who teaches hula hoop at night and didn&#8217;t want to talk about her &#8220;boring&#8221; day job&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s all about dancing to great music,&#8221; said Melendez, a 35-year-old singer from Mountain View, &#8220;and a little running, too&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gugler and Melendez didn&#8217;t care about finishing times.
