She gave me a choice of three local theatres and two movies at each venue; I chose <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">State of Play<\/span> at Cinetopia, because it is the best movie house in the Portland area, and I&#8217;m researching thrillers at the moment (the novel I&#8217;m currently rewriting is a near-future techno-thriller).  I&#8217;d also heard good things about the BBC miniseries on which this American remake is based.<\/p>\n<p>Though D had little interest going in (she was sure I would pick <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">Monsters vs. Aliens<\/span> instead), afterwards she had no complaints except for the obscure title (a chiefly British phrase meaning &#8220;state of affairs&#8221; or &#8220;the current situation&#8221;).  The trailer is pretty info-rich, but it actually doesn&#8217;t give too much away:<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"400\" height=\"246\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/ZHziENfOX34&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1&#038;rel=0\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/ZHziENfOX34&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1&#038;rel=0\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"400\" height=\"246\"><\/embed><\/object><br \/><small><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZHziENfOX34\">http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZHziENfOX34<\/a><\/small><\/p>\n<p>And now I&#8217;ve added the BBC series to my Netflix queue.
